What is Gospel?

Gospel, from the Old English god-spell "good tidings" is a calque of Greek eu-angelion used in the New Testament. In Christianity, the term gospel can be used to mean different things.For example: 1. to denote the proclamation of God's saving activity in Jesus of Nazareth 2. to denote the agape message proclaimed by Jesus of Nazareth.
More popularly are the four canonical Gospels, which are attributed to the Four Evangelists (Gospel of Matthew, Gospel of Mark, Gospel of Luke and Gospel of John): the term "a reading from the Gospel" can refer to any of the 4 books. History of Gospel music:

The modern Gospel is less than 50 years old. Origin Gospel music is from Africian Americans. At the beggining of 20th century was big social changes and black people from the south were starting to move to the other parts of United States of America. They bring with them also Gospel music. The second stage of Gospel music is called Dorsey Era. After Second World War blacks started to purchase Gospel records. In 50 ´s there were many changes in Gospel. Ensembles starting to use piano or organ.
